The Sidewalk Astronomers is an international organization and while there are clubs and amateurs doing sidewalk astronomy
around the world, many of them are not "officially" members of the Sidewalk Astronomers.
We publish a newsletter that focuses on telescope building, personal experiences on the sidewalk, or any personal interest/astronomy/cultural
articles members submit. At this time, we only send the newsletter in the post but we are working on making it available on
the website or in electronic form.
We also have telescope donation programs and are creating several new programs for members focusing on hours spent doing
sidewalk astronomy and telescope building.
We do ask for a $15 yearly donation (clubs or individuals) to help cover the costs of the newsletter and also accept
donations of any amount, but it is not mandatory. Our main goal is to get people out on the streets and to
build a working database of amatuers around the world. Everyone participating in International Sidewalk Astronomy
Night should be sure to send us their postal address so that they can receive the next newsletter and the follow-up report
on the May 19th event.
Please send postal information and any questions about joining the Sidewalk Astronomers to
dsmith1055@earthlink.net . Even if you aren't a member, you can send me photos and articles about your past pulbic events that I can use
in the newsletter or on the website because they may inspire or help others who wish to do public events.
Its really important that we connect, in trying to contact clubs around the world I found that most websites, email lists,
and databases are extremely out of date. The Sidewalk Astronomers don't sell their databases or member information.
